Renowned as ‘New PCA Stadium’ or ‘Mullanpur Stadium,’ Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium is the latest addition to IPL stadiums, commencing operations for the 2024 season. New PCA Stadium is the most advanced piece of infrastructure the IPL will utilize for the 2024 season. Built with βΉ230 crore by the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) on a sprawling 41.95 acres and located in the DLF Mullanpur township of New Chandigarh, it replaces the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, offering the Punjab Kings a modern home stadium to complement a contemporary IPL franchise.
The stadium honors the last and 9th ruling Maharaja of Patiala, Yadavindra Singh. He was also noted as a distinguished cricketer who participated in First-Class cricket in India and represents the cricketer legacy of Punjab and the cricketing heritage of India.
The Mullanpur Stadium is unique due to its innovative design when compared to the other major cricket stadiums in India. Well thought out engineering design means the Mullanpur field is made of sand, providing improved drainage (able to clear standing water in 25β30 minutes), improved water retention, and improved playing conditions.
The stadium also has a state of the art herringbone drainage system, 4 international standard dressing rooms (with steam, sauna, and ice bath), a world class media center, and international standard floodlight systems. In its 2nd full season Mullanpur Stadium has hosted some of the biggest and most dramatic matches in IPL history, including the lowest total successfully defended in the history of the IPL.
The Pitch Report
The sand-based construction of the pitch at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium allows for excellent early pace and bounce. The surface is bowler friendly. In the first six overs of the powerplay, it can be the most batter friendly or most bowler friendly surface. This is because more attentive fast bowlers can use the pitch to their full advantage, resulting in more carries and more movement.
There is great slab movement and great assistance from the cool, Chandigarh evening. The first innings average is much lower than most modern IPL venues. This is because bowlers are kept in the contest. Unlike the flat batting surfaces at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium or Wankhede, the surfaces at this venue end bowlers in the contest. The average first innings score is 169 runs.
The middle overs of an innings provide opportunities for spin bowlers because the pitch tends to slow down and lose its early pace. This creates early spin engagement between overs nine and fifteen. The dry conditions of Punjab create surface conditions which provide off and wrist spin grip for the latter parts of both innings.
Quality spin bowling is indeed a game-changing aspect of the venue. Mullanpur has pace bowlers obtaining roughly 67% of the total wickets while spinners take 33% β a contribution which is appreciatively higher compared to other pace dominate venues. This ground has already shown its capability for remarkable game-changing performances β the PBKS bowling unit was able to defend a total of merely 111 runs against KKR in the year 2025; this game is still regarded as the best team bowling performance in IPL history on this ground.
New PCA Stadium has great first innings scoring premium analytics. When teams score 170 runs or more batting first here, they’ve won 10 out of 11 matches – a conversion rate of 90% which is the best in all IPL venues for this scoring range. This indicates the pitch makes a reward for teams that score 170 runs or more with aggressive scoring in overs 15-20 as the team chasing does often press at that score because of second inning surface which is comparatively slow.
Therefore, fantasy players must focus on the power hitting and the scoring rate that the team batting first has. they are much likely to win the match if they score 55-60 runs in the first 6 overs at a match winning pace of 175-190.
Toss Bias & Win Predictor
Mullanpur has a small sample size and a growing Match History. However, it shows some interesting patterns. For example, even though there arenβt many games played at the new New PCA Stadium, the data shows that around 60% of the time when a team bats first, they are able to secure the win. It is even one of the few, if not the only, completely new venues that is able to say this.
The main reasons why this is the case is due to the pitch probably slowing down, the head of steam target, an average first innings score of 169, and the location of the ground. There is expected to be a lot of dew in comparison to the other venues that are by the coast. The more games that are played at the New PCA Stadium, the more this trend is expected to increase.

Verdict: The captain winning the toss should definitely consider: BATTTING FIRST. Mullanpur joins Chepauk as the second venue in IPL history where data strongly supports setting a target rather than chasing. At this venue, teams that score 170 or more in the first innings are winning 90% of the games, which is the highest rate in the IPL. The pitch is known to slow down in the second innings, making spin bowling more effective. Furthermore, the cool evening conditions of Chandigarh tend to create a surface that deteriorates faster than other coastal venues.
A critical point to consider is that this venue has hosted a limited number of IPL matches, which makes this data less reliable. On days where humidity is higher than usual, and moderate dew is expected, the chasing team may have a short lived advantage in comparison to the other trends, so always check the conditions before making your fantasy picks.

Weather & Dew Factor
Mullanpur’s location in Punjab’s Shivalik foothills at around 350 meters in elevation means weather that is noticeably more pleasant than the burning plains of Delhi or the humid coasts of Mumbai. Mullanpur’s daytime IPL season temperatures of 32 – 36 degrees Celsius in April and May Mullanpur’s daytime temperatures are lower than the rest of the big three – Delhi, Hyderabad, or Chennai. For 7:30 PM matches, temperatures in April drop to around 16 – 22 degrees celsius, which makes Mullanpur one of the cooler venues.
The evening’s cool weather makes Mullanpur even more enjoyable for IPL players and fans. The view of Shivalik Hills from the stadium enhances the IPL match experience and creates a great atmosphere for fans.
π§ DEW FACTOR: MODERATE β EVENING COOLNESS DRIVES LIGHT TO MEDIUM DEW Dew at Mullanpur is not as heavy as Wankhede or Eden Gardens where dew is driven by rivers. Mullanpur has light to moderate dew due to the steep drop in temperature at this location in the Shivalik foothills. The temperature drops from 33Β°C to 16β20Β°C by 9:30 PM. Dew will form on the field and on the ball. This happens around the 14th over of the second innings and will marginally help the chasing batters in the last 4-5 overs of the innings.
Dew at Mullanpur is still significantly less than at coastal venues. It is important to note that this moderate dew effect has not offset the batting-first advantage at this ground. Teams scoring 170+ are still winning 90%+ of the matches. The dew factor at Mullanpur is still developing and is worth monitoring, but it is not the primary reason for your captain’s toss decision.
IPL Records at New PCA Stadium
In just two seasons in the IPL (2024 and 2025) the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium has quickly become one of the most entertaining and unpredictable grounds in the league. PBKS’s season-high 219/6 against CSK and the astonishing match where they defended 111 against KKR, which is a score deemed ‘undefendable’ on every other IPL ground, are massive highlights in the history of this new venue.

Best Individual Performers at New PCA Stadium
Considering that the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium has hosted only two IPL seasons, the records are continuously being made, but to begin with, a few players have already made a name for this stadium, especially Shashank Singh and Kagiso Rabada. Singh has been the first great IPL batter of this venue, and Rabada has been the best wicket taker of this venue with his high pace.

Fantasy Cricket Tips: Playing a Match at New PCA Stadium
π Back Batting First Team’s Top Order
New PCA Stadium, together with Chepauk, is one of the two IPL venues where it is proven that batting first is better. When the team batting first wins the toss, the top 3 batsmen of that team have high chances to score, meaning they should be chosen for the fantasy teams, especially the openers, as they will maximise the points during the “powerplay”. A team that finishes with 170 runs is very likely to win at this ground.
β‘ Arshdeep & Rabada Are Must-Picks
Reliable and highly sought fantasy picks at this venue are Arshdeep Singh and Kagiso Rabada. They will generate plenty of points as they are great at taking wickets during the powerplay, death, and they will be in the top scoring players at the end of the innings. If PBKS play at home and one of these two bowlers plays, they will likely score plenty of points.
π Shashank Singh β The Home Hero
Batting at Mullanpur has suited Shashank Singh’s aggressive and fearless style of play. As he has played on the Mullanpur pitch, he has become a dominant force in the league. It is because of his ability to clear the boundaries during the middle overs. On this pitch and at this time of play, a big-hitting middle-order batter is the perfect asset. A pitch becomes a good batting pitch after the first ten overs, and Singh’s ability to clear the boundaries is unmatched.
New PCA Stadium has new pitches, so they are still trying to figure out the best ways to bat there. Shashank Singh has shown what can be accomplished on a pitch. In these early years of the IPL, he has shown that he can win games in a variety of ways. As 2026 approaches, it is expected that Singh’s legacy at this venue will expand alongside the number of matches played there. Where there are clear batting cycles, this venue’s best games and Singh’s best days are still to come.
